Unconsummated Love

Perhaps it was the timing, the distance, or maybe just a lack of chemistry that kept things from progressing physically. But regardless of the reason, the memories of those unconsummated relationships can be powerful and lingering.

I would really appreciate it if you could please stay on the page
for at least 30 seconds to help me support my work as per Medium's new changes.

the one who slipped away
like a shadow in the night
lingers in the depths
of our memory’s light
was it timing’s cruel twist?
that kept us
from the union
of heart to heart?

unconsummated
a tale of what might have been
the anticipation
a slow and silent sin
in the reality
of could-have-been lovers
we would reside
with unquenched desire
our hearts in quiet denial

the promise of passion
a prospect so thrilling
but the flames of longing
forever kept distilling
the tension grew
with every stolen glance
yet there’s no chance
for physical connection

some stories
would find its own closure
both of them understanding
that it’s time to release
to unclasp the hand
but some stories lingered on
an open-ended dream
leaving us to wonder
what it could have been

what if
we had taken that
next bold step
would it
have brought us closer
would it
have leave us with regrets
years may pass
and still
they haunt our mind
this unconsummated love
