Silence Is My Most Practical Recourse

I’m often told to voice my thoughts and assert myself. However, it’s a challenging terrain, as many times, those with offensive tendencies are resistant to the truth.

They tend to engage in a pattern akin to what we observe in parliamentary or political debates — speaking over me, an effort to drown out my voice.

In most instances, I choose the path of silence, opting to bite my lips rather than engage. I know that I would never have the opportunity to convey the complete truth before someone would cut me off.

I would really appreciate it if you could please stay on the page
for at least 30 seconds to help me support my work as per Medium's new changes.

in my quest
for general courtesy
i tread softly
biting my lips
holding the words
i could have said
even when i’m right
even in the face of what’s unfair
i’ve learned to swallow the truth
it’s been a heavy burden
which i’m still carrying
