Do We Always Need to Have the Last Say?

Mika Oka
3 min readJun 12, 2023

We all fight a constant battle inside ourselves. It’s a struggle to leave our mark on everything we do, to be in charge, and to control the world around us.

This need for control, fueled by wanting to be right and have power, affects how we interact with others, shapes our relationships, and even changes who we are.

But in this fight to always be right, do we miss out on the good stuff?

Do we lose the chance to connect with people and see things from different points of view?

in the domain of human nature
there exists a struggle
day by day
a desire burning
with fiery might
to always be right
to have the final say
in every situation
that comes our way

that ego
that powerful force
driving us forth
shaping our course,
whispering within
its relentless pursuit
to dominate
to triumph
making some believe
that they know it all
